Phillip Challans, MD is a lifelong Kansan born in Lyons and raised in Salina. He did his undergraduate work in Chemical Sciences at Kansas State University and received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine (2001). Dr. Challans completed his residency in pediatrics at Wesley Hospital (2004) and spent two years in private practice in Wichita. In 2006 he joined Mid-America Diabetes Associates and practiced Diabetology alongside internationally recognized diabetes pioneer Dr. Richard Guthrie.
During his tenure at Mid-America Diabetes, Dr. Challans quickly expanded his Diabetology practice to all age groups and currently has patients ranging in age from 18 months to 98 years. He treats patients with pre-diabetes, dysmetabolic syndrome X, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as well as gestational diabetes. Dr. Challans has special interest in diabetes technology and is an expert in insulin pump and continuous glucose sensor technology.
He and his wife enjoy helping animals and frequently volunteer to assist rescue organizations. Dr. Challans is involved in his church as a Deacon and his hobbies include biking, camping & fishing as much as time allows.
Dr. Challans is a member of the American Diabetes Association and the Medical Society of Sedgwick County.
